Seniors’ farmers market coupons available

Seniors looking to stretch their food budgets this summer and fall may be entitled to discount farmers market coupons. To be eligible, individuals must be 60 years of age or older and have a monthly income at or below $1,832/single, $2,470/couple, $3,108/three-person household, or be 60 and older and currently receiving or eligible to receive SSI, Public Assistance or Section 8 housing subsidy.

The check book-style coupons will be distributed while supplies last through Sept. 30 at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center, located at 94 Davis Ave. in New Rochelle, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Proof of age and New Rochelle residency are required. Applicants must come in person to sign an affidavit.

The coupons are valid at New Rochelle’s Down to Earth Farmers Market, located at Huguenot Park, every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the New Rochelle BID Grand Market at the Library Green, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The farmers markets feature a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and specialty foods.
