NRPD makes arrests on attempted murder charges

On June 10, at approximately 11:02 p.m., New Rochelle police officers observed an occupied, parked vehicle on Crescent Avenue.  The officers knew the identity
of one of the occupants and knew that he had an outstanding warrant for criminal contempt that occurred on May 15.

Subsequent investigation resulted in the recovery of a loaded .9mm handgun with a 30-round extended magazine, along with a bag of 30 rounds of .9mm ammunition from the vehicle.

The following suspects were arrested:

Wilmer Maldonado, 20, of New Rochelle; charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition
Feeding Devices-Not in Home.

Janetti Oceguera-Coyt, 20, of New Rochelle; charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices- Not in Home.

Daniel Barcenas, 20, of New Rochelle; charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree; Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition
Feeding Devices- Not in Home; Criminal Contempt in the second degree-Disobey Court Order and Aggravated Harassment.

Abel Coyt, 35, of New Rochelle; charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition
Feeding Devices- Not in Home.

Further investigation by New Rochelle police detectives resulted in Coyt, Maldonado and Barcenas being charged with Attempted Murder in the second degree
and Reckless Endangerment in the first degree in connection with an incident which occurred on April 30 at 11:35 p.m. in the vicinity of Union Avenue and
Fourth Street, in which shots were fired by Coyt into a moving vehicle.

Additionally, a warrant was filed on Jair Barcenas, 18, of New Rochelle, charging him with Attempted Murder in the second degree and Reckless Endangerment in the first degree in connection with the April 30 shooting.  He was be booked on June 14, after press time.  It is believed that the handgun,
recovered during the arrest of the four above suspects, is the same handgun used by Coyt during the April 30 incident.
